DeepL's Legal team is seeking Research Assistants (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter) to join our team focusing on IT, IP & Innovation. As a Research Assistant at DeepL, you will work closely with our legal team and other legal professionals to provide support and assistance across a range of legal matters. This role requires a commercially oriented individual who is eager to learn and has the drive and interest to tackle a wide range of tasks within the legal department
Your Responsibilities
- Providing comprehensive legal support on a wide range of daily matters, with a particular focus on IT/IP law.
- Monitoring incoming legal requests and assisting lawyers with responses.
- Drafting and reviewing legal documents, including license agreements, supplier agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
- Assisting in the management of the company's intellectual property portfolio as well as in brand protection and enforcement.
- Assisting in the coordination and evaluation of complex engineering and product related issues in the development of new products and features.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of contract templates and standard legal clauses for global agreements and legal playbooks.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on diverse topics relevant to the company's contracts and activities (e.g., regional considerations, marketing activities).
- Assisting in corporate housekeeping tasks (e.g., drafting PoAs).
- Providing guidance on new laws and regulations that impact the company.
- Utilizing AI tools and systems to enhance the efficiency and throughput of legal support.
- Performing administrative tasks such as organizing and maintaining documents, coordinating intake of requests and managing deadlines for multiple tasks (e.g., tracking the status of trademark applications).
Qualities we look for
- First German State Exam with above-average results;
- Strong interest in AI and language-based solutions;
- Highly organized, structured, and detail-oriented, especially when working and supporting in time-sensitive matters;
- Able to follow instructions carefully and accurately;
- Collaborative and proactive team player;
- Excellent time-management and prioritization skills;
- Problem-solver with a goal-oriented mindset.
- Prior work experience desirable;
- A willingness to learn about DeepL's in-house legal world and relevant legal aspects;
- Interest in growing within the role and taking on new challenges.
